meteorologist doug kammerer joins us now with more on our chilly forecast. >> chilly, almost an understatement here. here we are in the middle to early october. very cold numbers. 54 degrees. plenty of clouds, and even shower activity, even around the district. winds out of the northeast at 8 miles per hour now. take a look at the numbers around the rest of the area. 44 in martinsburg. and 52 down towards fredericksburg. temperatures right now 15 to 20 degrees below average. and we're going to be even colder tonight. look at the rain coming across the region. most of this has been on the light side. it's been per per sis tant along the corridor. over the next couple of hours, expect the temperatures to come down and expect more rain to come down, too. my complete forecast in just a few minutes. >>> the next time you ride metro, you might encounter new controversial ads promoting israel. they initially refused to post them but a judge is now giving metro until 5:00 tonight to put them up. here's the reaction from the riders. >> seems pretty zionist. >> reporter: it's only 18 words, but its mess

, doug. a big scare at a shopping mall after a man allegedly threw a cocktail inside the boston common mall. reaction from witnesses. >> reporter: tonight arlington police and the fbi are trying to determine a motive. this happened during the busy lunch hour. this video you're seeing only on news 4 shows arlington police taking a man into custody near the courthouse. someone called police saying he smelled like gasoline. he is suspected of throwing a cocktail inside the boston common mall. >> i was going down the escalator and all of the sudden glass just splattered all over town in the food court. >> about five minutes after that i saw police and bomb sniffing dogs. >> police evacuated the mall for more than five hours. >> a search was don for more devices. >> federal agents called in to sweep the area and found three more bottles near where the suspect dropped the first one. >> it was a device used in the commission of a violent crime. we're going to qualify it for what it is and charge them with possession and intent to use. >> no one was hurt. the fbi does not believe he is connect

's squawk on the street david faber, and doug lebda. good to have you both onboard this morning. it seems to me housing always seems like a separate issue that maybe didn't get talked about as much. is that retrospectively incorrect? because it does seem so fundamental, david. >> it's fundamental in the economy in many ways. certainly helped us during the boom period in housing that we saw adding to gdp, construction, and so many other things. people refinancing their homes. it hasn't been discussed that much, you're right, particularly given that the president seems to have backed off a bit, perhaps, on a number of plans that would've relieved people from mortgages that they otherwise are not in a great position to pay but there was a lot of political opposition to that. but housing is starting to come back. we are starting to see real signs of not just stabilization but even perhaps some growth. doug can speak, i'm sure, to some more of the specifics about what we're seeing, but even new home sales, existing home sales, and prices finally have not just stabilized. >> steve rattner? >> t
